Foster The People- Pumped Up Kicks Peter, Bjorn & John - Young Folks DJ Eugene Remix by Eugene Hung

Foster The People, the new band under Sony Music has been popular for recently.  Even though the style is a little bit underground, but it is promoted successfully in main stream music market; its song, “Pumped Up Kicks” has been playing many  times on the radio and even in Japan’s McDonald’s. I do like the song, I like the bass line, the whistle and the unique sound of the vocal. Thanks to Youtube, I found another music video, Bjorn & John’s” Young Folks”. Both sound is quite similar, if you check both music videos on the top of this blog. The whistle and the bass sounds similar!! So I started to mash up both songs and remix it. (I do love both songs, no offensive)

Ok, basically, I use software called “Albion Live”, It is very handy. You can record multiple tracks on it, add effects, and compose midi. Through the software, I don’t need a real studio; my studio is my Mac Pro that I can carry everywhere. (I remixed it during the English class) The first problem I met is the Key. Both sounds are similar, but different keys. So I change  Bjorn & John’s” Young Folks”’s key, in order to match “Pumped Up Kicks”. I don’t think I’m good at that, because I change the pitch at the same time… And due to my extremely POOR music theory. I  had to try (change) couple times, until it sounds good.

Lastly, I really appreciate that if you check my music. I am not a real DJ Yujin (Eugene) YET. I only do basic stuff and still have to improve a lot. No matter my music suck or not, I really enjoyed composing the bass, drum, leads, and “copy and paste”. Thank God, technology and Steve jobs… etc  I can finish some music by myself, and it doesn’t cost me a studio fee, but  the utility of my laptop. However, I am really Old school, I STILL LOVE TURNTABLES!!!! (way mor than CDJ)

Turntable
Yes! I believe that VINYL NEVER DIES!! Even though I use Mac Pro to make music...

  1. Did you know that ds106 has an internet radio station? Anyone can take over the stream and play whatever they want whenever they want to (as long as someone else isn't currently using the stream).

You might consider doing some musical explorations there. Let me know if you'd like to do something with this for one of your digital storytelling projects.
